Chapter One
"She's been in a coma for six months now, don't you think you wanna take a look in her mind?" the doctor asked. It's been six months since that horrible day, six months since I talked to her, six months since I saw her smile, and all I saw now was her skin as white as bones on the plain white bed, closing her eyes to still open one day, maybe. "I'll give her one more month" Jared said trying to hide the pain and sadness.
While walking back home from the hospital, Jared was frustrated with the thought that the only way he can talk to his best friend is to use his special abilities. Just the thought of using them brings anger and pain to his body and mind. But he did think about Sierra, his best friend ever since preschool. When he got home he looked for that scrap book his mother and Sierra's mother put together two years ago. And when Jared found that book, he remembered everything about her, her beautiful smile, all the memories, even her voice. Before he knew it, he saw drops of water on the pages of the scrap book, so he wiped his tears away and put the book back before anyone can suspect anything that could have happened.
The month had past and Jared woke up that morning reminding himself that Sierra would be alright and smiling in the hospital just waiting to see him, but there's only one thing that's stopping him, school. Finally that final bell of the day rang and he dashed to the hospital, not even looking back or even getting his homework out of his locker, nothing can stop him. Jared knew exactly which floor her room was on and even which room number she had, since he has visted her so many times. He kept repeating the number over and over "219, 219" he said in between breathes. Finally he reached the room, her room, Sierra's room, trying to catch his breath he walked in and saw her beautiful smile again. He even noticed her face brightened with color when he walked in, "Jared!" Sierra shouted louder than she was supposed to. "Sierra!" he shouted back, but then right before they hugged...poof. She was gone.
"Jared!" his mother yelled. "Dang it, it was just a dream" he said in a whisper. So today was the real day, to see if she finally woke up or not. The day went by so slow at school, it almost killed him. At last the sweat sound of the bell hit and this time instead of dashing to the hospital like his dream, he took nice slow walk because it might be the last time he sees the real world for a while. Now he faces the door to Sierra's room, he took a deep breath and opened the door slowly and walked in. All he saw now was the doctor standing next to her and he saw her eyes closed, instead of his dream, he got his nightmare. "I'm ready" Jared said with a hint of fear. The doctor nodded.
"Now if I don't come back after a month or so, it could be because I have choosen to stay with her, that's highly unlikely, or maybe something in her mind ate me or something like that" Jared said with a shaky voice. The doctor nodded and ask the nurse to bring an extra bed to the room. Then Jared slowly walked towards Sierra and placed his hand on her forehead and all you saw was this brilliantly blue light transfer from Jared's hand into Sierra's forehead. "Stay safe" the doctor said to himself.
Chapter 2
"Wow" is all Jared could say in the ghost town mind of Sierra's thoughts. It was dark, foggy, and creepy. "What happened here?" Jared said to himself. He looks around, even up and down, but all he saw was a black sky or a dried up ground. He sat down to decide what to do, should he start looking for her or should he stay here and see what happens? After 10 minutes he decided to go look around for her and what happens, happens. Suddenly everything started spinning around him, "What's going on?!" Jared yelled out as if someone is going to answer him. The spinning finally stopped and he found himself in a playground. In a distance he saw a little girl on the swings, it looked like she was crying.
Jared slowly walked toward the little girl, but as he got closer to her he saw someone else. It was a boy with black curly-ish hair and a red shirt, it couldn't have been Jared because he had blond hair, but he seems to know that boy. As he came to the two little kids, he finally realized that it was Sierra and Nick. Jared instantly hugged them both and began to cry a little. When he got a hold of himself again he said to Sierra "Can you please change to your normal 13 year-old self again?" She nodded and he saw her like that body in the real world, only the one here is full of color.
"Can you please change Nick back too?"
"But he looks so cute!"
"Sierra..."
"Fine"
She only changed him to how he looked like seven months ago, I wonder why?
"Hey Sierra?" I said a bit nervously.
"Yea?" she said in a joyful voice
"Can you.." then suddenly the location changed back into the dried up gray desert, Sierra and Nick fell to the ground holding their heads. "Sierra! Nick! What's going on?!" I shouted hoping they would hear me. Nick vanished into thin air and Sierra stood up again and said "I dunno what happened, but that happens a lot more now." The location changed to something familiar, it was her living room, we use to always play video games or do homework here, it felt nice to be near something so close to life. She sat down and I had a question or two on my mind.
"So Sierra what happened back there?"
"What do you mean?" she seemed a bit confused or forgetful.
"Like when you and Nick fell to the ground and then he disappeared."
"Oh" she said looking a bit sad, "Well I really don't know, but it seems like everything is breaking down and I seem to be like..." she paused to think of the right word "crashing, I guess"
"Do you know what could be the reason of this?" I questioned her, but she only shock her head.
"And also why didn't you change Nick completely?"
'Well remember that day of the accident?" I nodded feeling a bit angry, but I held it in. "Apparently Nick was in that accident, they didn't move, well they did, but for a different reason." I tried to remember that day he moved but it only bought anger and sadness to me because he never said good-bye. "Anyways, Nick died in that accident." I felt complete shock and fell to the floor, crying.
I guess I fell asleep that night, since I woke up wondering what happened and what I'm doing here. I saw Sierra cooking some breakfast and Nick sitting at the table reading a newspaper, why or how do they have a newspaper? I sat next to him and started noticing all the details of him and wondered if he can even remember the outside life.
"So Sierra" I said starting the morning conversation. She just turned off the stove and looks at me rather confused. "We should probally check out what's wrong with your head" she just held her head and still looked confused. "I mean your real brain we're in now" she seem shocked that this isn't real life but that she was in her own mind, but she can understand a bit since she knows my talents too. We ate breakfast and talked out our plan and we knew where we needed to go, so we set out to the middle of no where to inspect the problem.'
Chapter 3
We walked for at least five hours, well at least it felt like that.
"And why can't we just transport there again?" I shouted in complaint
"Because, it might mess up my brain and do some really bad damage" Sierra said. I looked at her and Nick, they didn't even break a sweat! Hmmm, maybe they don't feel it cause they aren't real? Another few hours flew by and I began to think we're never going to make it. We have finally stopped for something to eat, we ate at this very rocky area near a waterfall, it was quiet peaceful and like we were in the middle of one of those travel magazines.
At last we finally made it to the central control center of her mind, where we may or may not be able to fix her.
The place was rather grim and looked as if it was abandoned for at least 50 years. I took a look around and began to see the problem, the damage looked really bad and I might not be able to fix it. When I looked over to Nick and Sierra their faces were frozen with shock. I took a deep breath and looked at the book the doctor gave me before I left.
"Most likely something stopped moving from the incredible force of the crash."
It took me about two more hours trying to find what was broken, but then suddenly this green blob came out of no where, I knew exactly what it was, it's the self defence for the brain. And there's no way to stop it, I have to move fast, but the brain is a complicated place and I just didn't know where to start.
"Jared!" I heard someone shouting my name from a distance.
