Ukami's New Life
TThis is a story about a girl who made a difference, for everyone.
***Introduction***
I moved here to New York last month. I do not know alot about anything, here.
The city, the stores, everything is so much different than back home. Even food is a whole lot different. There are so many different choices, and even some restaurants serve my type of food. I moved here from Sakura, Japan. I miss my home town and my friends.
Soon I will see my friends again when I get old and move back home. Until then, I will try to make the best of things.
***
I looked out the window of my apartment. The sounds of noisy cars and buses woke me up early. I could see many people already awake and walking down the streets of the city.
I stood up, and stared at my boxes still needing to be unpacked. I sighed. I already hated the city, and now I had to live here with my older sister and brother. I went downstairs and saw my sister at the table making miso soup for her breakfast. "Hello sister." I said, sitting at the table. "Oh, hi. Want some breakfast? We are going out today." she replied. I sighed, "I guess... where'r we going?" "Some of the shops have some cute clothes... I want to check them out..." She winked at me, and then looked back at the soup and began stirring some more. I picked up the news paper. "New York Times?" I looked curiously at the title of this paper. "Hmm." I put it back down, not wanting to get more confused about New York than I already am. "I'm going to go get dressed.... I'll be back..." I said. "Hurry!" My sister replied, gesturing at the soup,"It will get cold......" I shrugged my shoulders and ran upstairs. I put on my pink dress and Kimono, and ran back downstairs.
Part Two
I sat down and ate my soup. My sister looked at my kimono. "People are going to think you are weird, wearing that..." she said, "Go change into my clothes I have some good stuff." She went upstairs and waved for me to follow. I took one last bite of my soup and ran upstairs. She got me changed into a pair of ripped jeans, flip flops, a pink shirt, and hoodie. I looked at myself in the mirror. I felt weird. I always wear a dress. "Are you sure this is good?" I asked my sister. "Yes! you'll see." She winked again and took me out to the streets. I saw alot of the young girls wearing the same clothes as me, so I did not feel as out of place as I did... She took me into some stores and bought me some new clothes and some for herself. "You won't be needing your kimono any more!" She said smiling, as she and I grabbed our bags and walked up the steps to our appartment building. We were exhausted and fell asleep watching TV.
The next morning I found myself in my bed. "what?..." I mumbled.....getting up and walking to the top of the stairs. "Hi Ukami!" My brother said. Your sister got a job today, so I will be here with you today. Okay?" "What?!" I said surprised! "A job?!"
More soon!
