A group called Falling Star Productions is making VMK with moving characters, chat, exactly as VMK. Not sure if it is going through but it currently isn't illegal because Disney does not own the copyright to VMK any longer, they can make the game called VMK. Falling star productions also called Disney and confirmed it. I'm excited to play again :D If it does open at least.. :)

hmmm. Even though Disney doesn't have copyrights on the game VMK, they still have copyright on thing suge as Adventureland, the Haunted Mansion, Jack Sparrow, The Srinking Machine, etc. So, unless Disney decided to reopen VMK there's almost no chance that VMK will reopen. Unless, Disney is partnering up with Falling Star Productions the same way the did with Sulake, there's pretty much now way that VMK will ever return the way it was. So, don't get your hopes up.

A - Yes, Disney still retains all rights and ownership of VMK. Consider VMK to be a car: Disney bought and paid for the car. They put a special paint job on it, but decided not to give us rides in it anymore. They have just parked it on the side of the road or in a garage. Does the car still belong to Disney? Of course it does, it's just not being used to give us fun rides any longer. Maybe we can still have a fun ride down the road when they start driving it again. :)

A copyright for a company lasts around 19 or 21 years (it's some weird prime number). For a person, it's their life span plus 75 years.

Without engaging in copyright infringement, a new VMK could not be created until at least 2024 or 2026.

The people making this game are trying there best and to answer some of your questions, here are some answers they gave us:
ON a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most, how similar will it be to VMK?
A: Ugh this one is though.

At the moment in developement its 2/10

But by the time we open for beta expect around 6/10. Then in the future we are going to aim for 9.99/10.

We can definately achieve 6/10 over time but the main issue we are having at the moment is room furniture. When we open in beta users may not be able to have their own rooms but thats just part of the beta experience....

Q:1. When is around your planned time to have open beta? Im not sure i can handle the excitement until next spring.

Please prove me wrong and let us know what your website is so we can all see it. I'd love to play another VMK but the evidence I've seen doesn't point to a credible project.

Keep in mind guys, this will most likely -not- be the vmk you're used to. They've even said that. These guys are taking on a project to help the people that miss vmk. Just going to make a few points here. First of all, a lot of you may know me. Otherwise, I'm sure you can figure it out. :D

Alright here we go.

Urakan: Not necessarily. GPVMK is using the images AND the sounds. Just because they didnt make it into an MMOG doesn't mean that it excludes them. Also I have said this at some other places: We will be adding our own flares to the game as well. It won't just be an exact replica and nothing more. Some things will be left out and/or replaced with our own add-ons, and others will remain the same. Or some others yet will be slightly altered.

Also, I do NOT appreciate Justin and whoever else is doing it saying that FSP is just a bunch of kids that don't even care about their sites. Not true. I can tell you that we are 10000% dedicated to :):):):):):):):):):):):) and our other sites [Which I can't mention - - Advertising >XD] I really cannot give too much info about this. But I can say that I find it funny how it has been leaked in so many places. It was staying private until we got further, but someone leaked it to [[Again, I can't say]] which then made someone grab it from there and bring it somewhere else, and finally here, xD. I find it highly impossible to recreate the VMK experience and still amass the users that have already played the original. The graphics alone will take a year or so.

Brain, feel free to have your own opinion, i have mine.

I highly doubt a new VMK will be re-created.

Everyone says '' Oh Yeah, i'm gonna create a new VMK '' or '' Yeah my dads company will re-create VMK ''.

It has been a lie for so long.

So many different opinions, so much different information.... I don't even know what to believe....
I totally believe that anyone could make VMK if they had experience and permission. But.... VMK was a VERY large MMOG because of how experience the Disney staff were.... Disney has been around for soo long and they have great people who worked on the staff team to make the game better everyday. Now, I'm NOT saying that the staff for VMKU will be bad. I'm not saying that at all. That is not even what I'm getting at. What I'm saying is that I think they would have alot more experience than 13 yr olds because they would have gone to college for it;;; blah blah blah.... so... instead of stating that a bunch of 13 year old kids are not going to be the best a coding... I can give you some advice..... and hire some adults to owkr on your game too... I'm sure you can find some experienced adults that are willing to help out with the game. Just remember this WILL cost ALOT of money to keep this online since it is such a big game, and if it is close enough to VMK, there will be ALOT of players to handle. not to mention how much business VFK would lose..... =/

Well if any of this is true (which im still not sure it is, because anyone could say "oh im owrking on a new VMK and it will be out in the spring of '09!) with a simple logo, it can be done.... so idk if i should believe quite yet. but once i see a website or any final information or screenshots, I will start to believe it is happening.

Some people think VFK is bad (including me, no offence to anyone) and quit for very multiple reasons.

but ALOT of us like VMK better than VFK,
so we will probably play the VMKU instead of VFK.
That doesn't mean you have to stop playing VFK...

You play Elf Island? I just tried it like a half an hour ago and didnt like it. I use to play Wizard101, but that was before the membership started.

I now just play CP and TT as of now. and a lil bit of VFK.

Anyways back on topic.

I've tried to get many of my old friends to play VFK, and they've tried it but ended up quitting, but if there's a 2nd VMK, I'm sure they'll join =)

I want FallingStarProductions to go ahead and call Disney, see what they say, and if they say yes i'd like FSP to go ahead and make a VMKU site with more info @_@

Cause right now all we really know is..

• These are Teenagers doing all this hard work
• VMKU, hopefully, will come out in Spring 2009
• They already have the severs.

There may be more than that, but that's all I know so far.

This game, I'll say it again, is not goign to be a 100% copy of vmk. These guys are looking into what they're allowed to do. If you're not a copyright expert, or a legal expert, please keep opininions to yourself.

These guys have set out to do something for the people that miss vmk. I think the issue here is that people are still hurt by the loss of vmk, and are very defensive, when something else comes along that's just like it.

Well apparently someone on this site - glares- leaked information about Project Rubix. It seems that the only option left is to tell all you guys about it. But under no circumstances right now is he breaking any rules, by using pictures of VMK to recreate a big "picture book" for people to look at.

This is indeed NOT a scam and I keep in touch with some people that work on this mostly.

First of all, Jared Jones (also known as Oatman) is one of the main staff on this project. Little do I know ANYTHING about this project, or anything about it. All I know is that Jared is a Disney freak, a fan of VMK, and one of the biggest computer geeks I know. :D

And knowing Jared, I can say he will work hard and long on this. He says he wants it to open by Spring of 2009.

If they continue this, I can say it will either be a big success or a big fluke.

Completely and utterly incorrect. We wouldn't be sued for using our own coded material to bring a game to life. Where we COULD run into a problem is with using their exact IMAGES AND SOUND. [Hmm.. familiar..] So in all seriousness GPVMK would be breaking the same copyright laws we were, [that is if they even copyrighted the images] But like I have said before, we are not going public until we get full permission and consent of the WDIG. We have already e-mailed them with our story and our question. As soon as we hear back from the WDIG it will be posted. If they tell us "no" and we have to halt all production on making it public, then the one's who have been planning their "I told you so."'s since the beginning will have their 5 seconds of glory. All I'm trying to get at here is that we are trying as hard as we can to bring back something we all loved. Now, if they tell us we can't use their exact images, we're probably going to have a slightly altered version. Like I, and cyre has said before though, it will not be a 100% replica of VMK. We are modifying things and adding things and etc. For example, we will most likely not be having a CL_ system. We felt that it was too bugged and had too much popularity and flaming.

I mean, they have a rep to keep up, closing a game and re-opening it after saying it was closed due to it just being a promotion could be bad news. After much discussion we are closing this thread as it deals with rumor and speculation. I did not realize where this originated and after some research found its origination. I do not expect this to come to fruition. The cost and overall scope of a project like this is something that cannot be achieved in its present state. Not to mention the copyright issues involved by both Disney and Sulake. As commented on another site "they wouldn't sue a bunch of kids"- probably not but it would take nothing to file a copyright infringement and shut the whole project down and tie it up forever.
