Alright most of you saw my "Tutorial on how to get transparent backgrounds on Photoshop (http://www.vfkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8676)" Now most of you had told me to make one for GIMP, and I took that into consideration and made this tutorial

GIMP - Transparent Tutorial

1. Starting your Image

You first must have a brand new image, with a simple white background like this picture over here

2. Layers The Main point of this one is to have different layers from your background layer, as long as all your drawings are different from the background layer, you are good.

3.Alpha Channel This is where it gets a little confusing, so your going to have to stay with me here. Alright you must do a right click on the layer titled "Background". A little window should open with a lot of choices, you must click the one that says "Add Alpha Channel" Once you have done so, you are now ready to move to step 4.

Step 4.Getting the Transparency This is probably the second most important job out of the tutorial. Transparency. Now this time im gonna start off with the picture.

Now most of it is inside the picture, but one of the things i forgot to mention is that when you get a dark gray checkered pattern on your picture means that you have now made you picture transparency and your ready to save, the most important part.

Step 5.Saving This is where if you mess up, all your work is ruined. Now you have to be paying close attention and I'm going to let you follow this in either words, or pictures your choice. Words are after pictures.

3.http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc91/Mugiey/Tutorials/7.jpg
4.http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc91/Mugiey/Tutorials/8.jpg

Now if you didn't understand that then I'll tell you the important part, Iits going to be in bullets.

Go to File/Save
Click on extension
And Scroll down until you find .png
Make sure you click .png
Make sure it is save as .png
later a box should open saying "Save background"
make sure that, that its UNCHECKED

Now I hope that this tutorial has helped everyone. If you have any questions please ask me.

oh I thought this was how it was to get it from an image from somewhere else. Do you know how that way? anyways why don't you just make the image transparent then?

aaaaaahhhhh in that matter you need to go to the image/layer/transparency/color to alpha. And find the background color which you wish to get rid off
